One of the most critical barriers hindering sustainable urban development is the insufficient access to finance for infrastructure projects in cities, particularly for innovative projects addressing climate change.
The C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) facilitates access to finance for climate change mitigation and resilience projects in urban areas by providing technical assistance to develop cities’ sustainability priorities into bankable investment proposals. A collaboration of C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, it was launched during COP21 in Paris, to support C40 cities in developing and emerging countries in preparing and delivering sustainable, low carbon and climate action projects.
With support from the CFF your city can develop a finance-ready project to reduce emissions and strengthen resilience against the impacts of a warming climate.
How can your city apply?

How does the CFF project selection process work?
The CFF selection process is a competitive process with three stages of project assessment. As a first step, cities are invited to submit an application via the application portal . This application will be the basis for the two first stages of the selection: the eligibility screening and project analysis. Please note that the CFF may contact you during these stages to ask for additional information on the project. Projects that successfully pass these stages will be contacted for a further due diligence mission.
Please see the image below for the stages of selection, and what is analysed in each step.
